My journey began with a passion for both business and technology. I earned my Master’s degree in Business and Bachelor’s degree in Business and Software Engineering, which laid the foundation for my career in the tech industry. After finishing my studies, I took on the role of a Project Manager, where I was responsible for overseeing various projects, ensuring that they were completed on time and met the required standards. Managing teams, navigating complex challenges, and delivering results became second nature to me. I found a great sense of fulfillment in helping organizations streamline processes, execute their visions, and solve complex problems.
However, life took an unexpected turn when my girlfriend was diagnosed with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). The condition left her struggling with daily tasks and significantly impacted her health and quality of life. After seeing the toll it took on her and realizing the immense need for constant care and support, I made the decision to step away from my professional career. Currently, I’m fully focused on caring for her and ensuring she has the support and comfort she needs during this challenging time.
During this period, I found myself reflecting on my own interests and passions, one of which was learning new languages. I’ve always had a fascination with expanding my vocabulary, and one of the methods I used to immerse myself in language learning was by watching movies. I would pause them frequently to write down new words, look up their meanings, and memorize them. This process became both a learning ritual and a source of joy.
It was through this practice that I came up with the idea for Lingia, an app designed to help language learners master vocabulary through a fun, movie-based approach. Drawing from my background in business and software engineering, as well as my project management experience, I decided to combine my love for movies with my passion for learning. The result is Lingia, a platform that not only makes vocabulary learning engaging and gamified but also accessible for everyone, no matter their level.
Building Lingia has been both a challenge and a rewarding experience. I’m currently learning vocabulary every day as I work on the app, constantly improving both my language skills and the app itself. I’m excited to share this project with the world and look forward to helping others in their language-learning journey, just as I continue my own. Despite the hurdles in life, I’ve learned that there’s always a way to turn challenges into opportunities for growth.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I hope Lingia can inspire and assist you on your language-learning journey, as it has been a passion project and a personal goal for me.
Yours
Elias
